All wisdom comes from the Lord.
It is with Him for all eternity.(Sir. 1:1)
It was created before all things.
It is there from all eternity. (Sir. 1:4)
Those who reject wisdom and
instruction are miserable;
their hope is in vain,
their labours bear no fruit,
and their work is pointless. (Wis. 3:11)
Fear of the Lord is the fullness of wisdom;
she deeply satisfies people with her
fruits. (Sir.1:16)
Fear of the Lord is the crown of wisdom,
making peace and health to flourish. (Sir. 1:18)
Fear of the Lord is the root of wisdom,
and long life stems from her. (Sir. 1:20)
If you desire wisdom, keep the
commandments,
and the Lord will freely give her to you. (Sir. 1:26)
For fear of the Lord is wisdom and instruction,
and he applauds faithfulness and
humility. (Sir. 1:27)
Those who serve her are really serving
the Holy One;
the Lord loves those who love her.
Those who obey her will judge the
nations,
and those who listen to her will
remain secure.
If they trust in wisdom, they will inherit
her,
and their descendants will also
possess her. (Sir. 4:14-16)
My child, if you will listen to me, you
will learn;
if you will apply yourself, you will
be intelligent. (Sir. 6:32)
The Blessings of Wisdom
Whoever fears God will do these
things;
whoever follows the law of Moses will
gain wisdom.
Like a mother, she will come to meet
him;
like a young bride, she will welcome
him.
She will feed him with the bread of
understanding
and give him the water of wisdom to
drink.
He will lean on her and not fall;
he will depend on her and not be
humiliated.
She will exalt him above his neighbours
and make him eloquent among the
congregation. (Sir. 15:1-5)
The Wise and the Foolish
Those who observe the law will control
their thinking.
The fear of the Lord results in
wisdom.
Those who are not clever cannot be
taught,
but a certain kind of cleverness
makes a person bitter.
The knowledge of the wise will swell
like a flood,
and their advice is like a living
spring. (Sir. 21:11-13)
